Switching to green job training

From revamping existing “green jobs” programs to creating new ones, public two-year colleges are increasingly focusing on helping workers prepare for jobs in the emerging green economy and looking to their communities to determine what kinds of programs to develop. 

Minn. colleges survey their sustainability practices

Minnesota state colleges and universities have adapted a wide range of sustainability practices that include scheduling classes to increase energy efficiency, lowering water consumption, purchasing local foods, composting food waste, using nontoxic cleaning products and reducing carbon emissions, according to a first-ever state survey.  


Climate commitment reaches crossroads

At the beginning of August, 211 of the nation’s nearly 1,200 community college presidents had signed on to the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, a national effort among higher education institutions to promote and implement activities to curb greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.
